Ken Burns' COUNTRY MUSIC (coming to APT/PBS this fall) chronicles the history of a uniquely American art form, rising from the experiences of remarkable people in distinctive regions of our nation. Directed and produced by Ken Burns, the series was written and produced by Dayton Duncan, and produced by Julie Dunfey.

As guests of Alabama Public Television, Dayton Duncan and Julie Dunfey will be visiting the Alabama Department of Archives and History to discuss the documentary series, to share excerpts from it, and to entertain questions and comments from the audience.

This event is free and open to the public -- but seating is limited.

WLRH is excited to welcome back Ira Flatow to the Rocket City for First Take with Science Friday on May 21st, 2019. Every week, Science Friday brings today’s most innovative and exciting scientists to public radio airwaves. Brought to Huntsville in conjunction with the celebration of the Lunar Landing’s 50th Anniversary, First Take with Science Friday will bring those same stimulating science stories LIVE to the US Space and Rocket Center’s Nat Geo Theatre. Ira will lead a space and science-themed evening conversation with local scientists and, true to Science Friday form, audience members are encouraged to ask questions and join the conversation. The events will be recorded for broadcast on future episodes of Science Friday.

This year, the Alabama Book Festival teams up with the Alabama Humanities Foundation (AHF) to create a larger celebration of Alabama humanities called Anabranch. Job Readiness Workshop

The Jefferson County Department of Human Resources invites the public to a Job Readiness Workshop, Thursday, April 18 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Jefferson County DHR building, 2001 12th Avenue North in Birmingham (right behind the BJCC). Volunteers from the Birmingham Society for Human Resource Management’s Workforce Readiness Committee and the National Bank of Commerce will give presentations on resume writing, having a successful interview, keeping your new job and money management. We will also have a fashion show with tips on what to wear to an interview or your new job. My Sister’s closet will be at this event with low-cost job interview/work clothes for sale.

1st Annual Free Dental Clinic Golf Tournament

Golfers are invited to sign up for Huntsville's 1st Annual Free Dental Clinic Golf Tournament, honoring Colonel William (Bill) Stirling, on Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Link at Redstone. Tee off time is 9:00am. Following lunch it's a four-person scramble with a shotgun start. Entry fees are $60 per individual and $240 per team with proceeds benefiting the Community Free Dental Clinic in Huntsville. Fee includes lunch, greens fee and card.
