If the phrase “male a cappella group” conjures up an image of students in blue blazers, ties, and khakis singing traditional college songs on ivied campuses... think again. Straight No Chaser (SNC) are neither strait-laced nor straight-faced, but neither are they vaudeville-style kitsch. They have emerged as a phenomenon with a massive fanbase, numerous national TV appearances and proven success with CD releases.

Fort Mims Restoration Association is holding its annual Living History and Re-enactment on August 25-26. Come explore the early 1800's history of Alabama when it was the Mississippi Territory. The event is held from 9a-3p with 1813 period dress, weaponry, and crafts. A portrayal of the tragic event is scheduled daily at 2pm. Fort Mims is on the National Register of Historic Places and is an Alabama Archaeological site owned by the Alabama Historical Commission. Over 400 men, women and children of European American, Creek Indian, and mixed heritage died during the August 30, 1813 attack by warring Redstick Creek Indians on the stockade known as Ft Mims. Superhero Fun day and Family Expo for childhood Cancer month is September 8 in downtown Athens. The event is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. followed by a free concert featuring The Flashbacks. The Parade of Heroes starts at 10:15 with Superheroes and Real Heroes. Enjoy kids activities, vendors, food, prizes and music.
